JOHNNY BLACK

Johnny Black is a four time  Grammy nominated producer/songwriter from New York City. Originally signed as an artist to Sire records by industry icon Seymour Stein, Black shifted to production and songwriting in 2012 working with artists like Jessie J, Estelle, Daughtry, Mr. Probz, Tamia, DJ Cassidy and many others earning his first #1 (Kill The Lights) as well multiple Top 5, 10 and 20 Billboard chart positions in Dance, Rnb, Hot 100 and Rock. 

 

In 2017 he wrote and executive produced "Alex Who, This Is Who - Part I" and "Alex Who - Part II" for Empire records, the same year he signed with Concord Music.  That year he also collaborated with Danielle Nicole on her 2018 Grammy nominated album (Best Contemporary Blues)  as well as co-writing and producing the 2019 release for Stax/Concord  recording artists Southern Avenue, earning a Grammy nomination as both producer and songwriter for Best Contemporary Blues album in 2020. In 2021 he co-wrote and produced “Dumb Love” for Epic recording artist Mimi Webb which reached  platinum certification in Australia as well as Gold in Sweden, Norway and the UK where it charted in the top ten and reached 100 million streams on Spotify alone. 

 

In addition to writing and producing for artists across musical genres, Black's songs and productions have been featured in TV and film as well as multiple ad campaigns. Turning his focus towards sync, Black founded his own label/music production house BLK MAGIK to release artist projects licensed exclusively through Concord Music.  Located in the heart of Music City on the legendary Music Row, BLK MAGIK has been credited on major and independent label releases as well as having their own artist roster and several music/film sync placements, including the multi award winning animated short film "Doodle" which Black scored.

 

BLK MAGIK's roster  includes Black's solo artist releases as well as electronic group DR01D-Z, rock outfit The Evil Twins, instrumental throwback from  East River Yacht Club and southern-fried soul via Johnny Black & The 22's as well as a handful of outside independent co-releases from the likes of Alex Who, Lou Ridley, Raye Zaragoza, Voices Of Service, Kat Whitlock, Emily Wolfe, Jamra, Delacey/Emily Weissband and many others.  Since its creation, BLK MAGIK songs have been featured on CBS, ABC, NBC, Discovery, MTV, HBO, NETFLIX, VH1, and most recently as part of the ad campaign for Tennessee Tourism which features the Johnny Black & the 22’s song “Spring Fever”
